Non-Fiction Monday: Plants and Seeds
March 17, 2008 by inneedofchocolate
M and her dad have been working hard on garden preparation for the last two weeks. They created a garden space in our backyard last year and it became a wonderful daddy and daughter project for them that gave them lots of special time together. This year they’ve expanded the vegetable garden and made a separate space for flowers. With all this gardening work going on, we’ve been doing lots of reading about plants so for my first post for Non-Fiction Monday, I want to share some of our favorite books about plants and seeds.

What Kind of Seeds Are These? By Heidi Roemer
We just discovered this book, and we love it. It contains rhyming riddles about nine different kinds of seeds from coconuts to plaintain seeds and beautiful, inspiring artwork.

Zinnia’s Flower Garden by Monica Wellington
We love all of Monica Wellington’s books, and this one has inspired our own flower garden. Readers learn all the steps Zinnia takes to prepare her garden, plant seeds, tend the plants, and ready the garden for winter.

Apple’s Here by Will Hubbell
This book shows reader the changes in an apple tree over the course of a year and explains how apples are always there even if they are “hidden in buds and waiting for spring”.
