Ramona the Pest by Beverly Cleary

M and I just finished reading Ramona the Pest.  I remember reading and enjoying the Ramona books as a child, but I really loved re-reading this as a mother.  I was amazed by Beverly Cleary’s ability to empathize and understand how children think.  I usually find myself sympathizing with moms in kids books, but I really felt for Ramona when she was misunderstood by her mother or her teacher.  I realized that I probably misinterpret M’s motivations frequently.  I definitely recommend this as a read-aloud.  We are now requesting the CD from the library (M often likes to listen to a book after we’ve read it) and we we’ve put more Ramona books on our TBR list.
