I saw How Whales Walked Into the Sea by Faith McNulty on the book at Charlie’s Playhouse, an excellent evolution and prehistory resource. I knew my girls would love it so we picked it up at the library recently and read it yesterday during a long session of couch-snuggling and picture book reading. We were all fascinated by the pictures of land animals that evolved into whales, and we learned a lot about the lives of modern whales and their predecessors.
When I finished reading, M suggested we play whale family and we proceeded to do so for the rest of the morning, finding food, coming to the “surface” to breathe, etc. M also developed a game called “limbs to fins” where the girls crawl along and slowly end up on their bellies moving their legs from side to side like a whale’s tail.
This week’s Non-Fiction Monday Round Up is at Picture Book of the Day.

[...] How Whales Walked Into the Sea by Faith McNulty [...]
We’re recently read a great “prequel” to this – about fish leaving the sea and evolving into land creatures – great for young kids (younger than those at whom “How the Whales” is probably aimed at). Here’s my review:
