Since we started reading chapter books to M, I’ve intended to record what we read. I’ve gone through stretches with better and worse record-keeping. For the first months of 2009 I wasn’t reliable about writing our books down, but from April on I’ve kept a file of everything we’ve read, so while this list may not be absolutely complete, here are most of our read alouds from 2009.

What a list!! Which were her favorites??
Diane, we still haven’t read the last two but I’ve found used copies of them all. I wish they’d all go back into print.
Rawley, her favorites were Harry Potter, Any Which Wall, the Theodosia books, The Five Sisters, and The Time Garden
M is a lucky kid! So many wonderful books!
Nice list! If you liked Theodosia, besides the new book coming out soon *squee* you should read LaFevers’ Nathaniel Fludd. and you might like Kirsten Miller’s Kiki Strike too.
Simply lovely selection of read-alouds, and you are so wicked to have those fabulous looking cookies as your header picture. I need to go find something to eat. I’m participating in the 2010 comment challenge. I’ll be back!
Thanks, Jen
Jennifer, we’re really excited about the next Theodosia book too. Thanks for the other recommendations, we’ll definitely check them out.
Catherine, those are my very favorite cookies, but I’m munching gingersnaps right now.
Those are great books — I like the ones I know so much that I want to go read all the other ones because the list is so good.
I want to get back into reading more chapter books with my boys; it was hard for a while because the older one likes to sneak the book off and read it, while the younger one enjoys the slower and more personal reveal. But we dabbed our toes back in by reading a Christmas book, “Rapheal and the Noble Task,” (25 chapters, to be read in December) and we all liked it so we’ve kept on. We just read “Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.”
Oh, I love this list!
It was a sad day when my son told me he didn’t want me to read with him anymore! I had great expectations of reading with him books like Harry Potter, Narnia, Waterhorse, just to name a few.
I have two children, and my younger son is luckily NOT too old for mommy to read to him!
The first one with both boys was Charlotte’s Web. I love that book.
What a great list of books! I like the way you are mixing older titles with newer titles. So many times parents just want to read what they knew from their childhood. Happy reading!
We have so much fun with our read-alouds. I’m convinced that M resisted learning to read for awhile b/c she feared I’d stop reading so much to her despite many many assurance that I would read to her for as long as she wished, hopefully for many many many years.
We love Charlotte’s Web too. I read it to M when she was 4 and the girls also really like the old (animated) movie which was the first full length movie I ever watched.
What an excellent list! I love Rapunzel’s Revenge. It’s one of my recent favorites. I agree with Kathy – it’s nice to see both classics and newer works on there.
Great list! I saw several of our family’s favorites on your list.
What great titles! My kids also liked the A to Z Mystery Series, Bruce Hale’s Chet Gecko series, and R.L. LaFevers Lowthar’s Blade trilogy.
That’s awesome. I wish we’d done more reading aloud in my family when I was younger.
