This week, our special book is Night Tree by Eve Bunting. Today, based on the suggestion in Christmas Mosaic, we’re going to make a textured night picture using black construction paper as our base, green felt, sequins, beads, yellow foam, etc. Later in the week will make treats for birds.
Last Friday was the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe so that morning we read The Lady of Guadalupe by Tomie de Paola.
We’ve been reading about Hanukkah, and after a search of local grocery stores, I successfully found the matzo meal we needed for our latke recipe. We’re planning to make them on the first night of Hanukkah and re-read Toby Belfer Never Had a Christmas Tree by Gloria Teles Pushker. We’ve also enjoyed Mrs. Greenberg’s Messy Hanukkah by Linda Glaser and I Have A Little Dreidel by Maxie Baum. C loves to twirl around the house singing “Daedle Daedle Daedle”.
Other stories we’ve enjoyed:
An Orange for Frankie by Patricia Polacco
Nine Days to Christmas: A Story of Mexico by Marie Hall Ets
Morris’s Disappearing Bag by Rosemary Wells (gets both girls giggling)
Jingle Bells by Iza Trapani (lots of “dingle bess, dingle bess” now from C)
Carl’s Christmas by Alexandra Day (C loves this one!)
Christmas Day in the Morning by Pearl Buck
Good King Wenceslas by John M. Neale, illus. by Tim Ladwig (incredible artwork for my favorite carol)
Little Rabbit’s Christmas by Harry Horse (we love all the Little Rabbit books)
We’ve enjoyed so many good books over the last week. Here are some:
