I had thought that with M sick, we didn’t do much this week, but when I started thinking more carefully I realized we did lots of activities for our snow study.
After reading Snowflake Bentley, we cut out paper snowflakes and then painted snowflakes using spools. (Forgive the stream of sunlight in the picture. I couldn’t get a good angle.) We looked at flicker sets of snowflake photography and we picked up Kenneth Libbrecht’s Field Guide to Snowflakes at the library. M has enjoyed perusing it during her afternoon quiet time.
This week, we’ll read Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost and do some wintry sketches. I’ll have M read to me from two Scholastic Time-to-Discover readers titled Snow and Winter.
More snow/winter books we’re enjoying:
Very Last First TIme by Jan Andrews
Fireside Stories: Tales for a Winter’s Eve by Caitlin Matthews
Winter Days in the Big Woods (My First Little House Books)
Children of the Northlights by Ingri and Edgar Parin d’Aulaire
Danny’s First Snow by Leonid Gore
The Lemon Sisters by Andrea Cheng
The Biggest, Best Snowman by Margery Cuyler
A Study of Snow, Part 1 is here.
