I finally got Bend the Rules Sewing by Amy Karol from the library and I love it. I wanted to check it out before I bought it but I definitely need my own copy. I’ve already chosen several projects to do including a wallet for M and a handbag for me. Amy’s inspired me to make a new set of napkins for us too since most of ours have been in use for over 10 years. I was obsessed with making napkins around the time I got married (nearly 13 years ago). In fact, I gave my bridesmaids sets of napkins for thank you gifts. I’m also inspired to make a new springy apron because I’m also on a new recipe kick as well (lots of creative spring energy in our house :))
I’ve done a fair amount of sewing (typically in crazy spurts punctuated by long, long dry spells). I’ve always bent the rules a bit – daring to go without pins, playing fast and loose with seam allowances (not necessarily a good idea), etc. I love Amy Karol’s approach to sewing. She has great advice about when you do need to stick with the rules and when you can relax, make it easy, and do what you like.
Speaking of sewing, I just made crayon rolls based on this pattern from Cindy at Skip to My Lou. I’m going to stick them in the girls’ Easter baskets. I’ll have pics of them to share later.
