Continuing our focus on marine mammals, we picked up Super Swimmer: Whales, Dolphins, and Other Mammals of the Sea by Caroline Arnold. The opening pages describe ways marine mammals are designed to fit their environment: torpedo shaped bodies, blowholes, blubber, etc. Then different groups of mammals like whales and dolphins, seals and walruses, are explained in greater detail.
The pictures drawn by Patricia Wynne are wonderful, and we’ve learned several new facts and discovered an animal previously unknown to us, the dugong, a marine mammal similar to a manatee.
At her website, Caroline Arnold has a great hands on activity to go along with the book.
This week’s Non-Fiction Monday Round-Up is at Wild About Nature.
