We’re continuing our exploration of beaches and the ecosytem near the beach. The beach we’re going to at the end of the month is an island with a salt marsh on one side and the ocean on the other. You drive across a bridge over the salt marsh to get to the island and many people rent houses on the salt marsh side to take advantage of fishing and boating opportunities.
When I saw A Day in the Salt Marsh by Kevin Kurtz at the library, I knew it would be good preparatory reading. The rhyming texta and gorgeous artwork teach about the wide variety of wildlife in the marsh. The author includes games at the end that can also be downloaded at the publisher so you don’t have to write in the book.
This week’s Non-Fiction Monday round up is at Chicken Spaghetti.
I love the idea of linking a picture book with your learning activities! Literacy and literature are my two passions. Welcome to the kidlitosphere.
Book Chook
Thanks! We worked through most of Five-In-A-Row, vol 1 last fall and found ourselves generally picking the art activity or the science activity to go with the picture book for that week rather than using the whole curriculum and we rarely read the books more than 2 days in a row. I used that as a stepping stone to simply picking out some picture books on a topic we were interested in and reading them and doing an activity afterwards.
