Every Monday, kidlit bloggers celebrate some of the fantastic non-fiction available for kids and teens. I’m excited to be hosting today’s Non-Fiction Monday Round Up! Leave a link to your post about a non-fiction title in the comments, and I’ll update throughout the day.
My selection for today is 50 Things to Draw and Paint. I discovered this one at the library last week, and I knew my 6yo would love it. Each simple project has step by step instructions for using pencils, pastels, paints or ink to make animals, people or a scene from nature. The projects are small and older kids could work on them independently. Some require more complicated drawing or painting techniques but they could easily be simplified. My daughter often sketches or colors during transitions times like while I make dinner or while I put her sister to bed. This book is perfect for those times when she needs some inspiration.

Thanks so much for hosting today!
At Great Kid Books, I’m reviewing two books to help children investigate animals of the ocean deep: Prowling the Seas, by Pamela Turner, and Down, Down, Down, by Steve Jenkins.

At Bookends @ http://bookends.booklistonline.com/ Cindy and I have a review of Jim Murphy’s outstanding book Truce: The Day the Soldiers Stopped Fighting. Really high interest subject for teens and a stellar job of writing. I had no idea that the storied spontaneous Christmas truce on the trenches of WWI happened in so many places along the front. Murphy makes the convoluted history of this war extremely understandable.
Thanks for hosting!
At Abby (the) Librarian, I reviewed I & I: Bob Marley by Tony Medina, illustrated by Jesse Joshua Watson.
